Summer Special: Makeup
This weeks summer special is all about makeup, particularly shades perfect for summer and formulations which help skin breathe during the warmer months.
Eye Of Horus Goddess Eye Pencils
I first had the pleasure of trying this new brand before Christmas and I was really pleased with the quality of the makeup. I tried the Bronze Goddess Pencil and really loved the colour, texture and also how long they lasted without transferring to any other areas of my skin like some eye pencils can. I was really pleased when they sent me their latest shades for summer to try, Lazuli Blue and Jewel Amethyst.
The colours are gorgeous shades of shimmery blue and purple. Both shades are highly pigmented and give a good bold colour, they also apply really easily without you having to drag the skin around the eye area. Both colours will look great with summer skin and I particularly like the Lazuli Blue shade which I will be wearing with a smoky bronze eye look on holiday! They currently retail at £13 online at Eye of Horus.
Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream
I don’t think my summer makeup post would be complete without a BB cream thrown in! They provide perfect coverage for summer skin. This one, which has been sent from Ginvera is perfect as it provides a natural flawless coverage with the added protection of an SPF 30 for the face. I particularly like the Ginvera BB Cream as it is quite hydrating and I have found some BB creams to be a bit drying for my skin. It contains Hyaluronic acid (a great skin plumper), premium green tea and ginseng. This particular BB is a one shade suits all, it did blend very well with my skintone which I would say is light – medium, although I can imagine it might be slightly too light for darker skintones. It is a great all round skin perfector for the face during the summer. It retails at £18 and can be bought online at Ginvera.
Lily Lolo Mineral Foundation
Lily Lolo is a British brand which specialises in high quality mineral makeup. Mineral makeup is perfect for the summer as it gives a light flawless coverage without the feeling of heavy makeup. Even better, it doesn’t clog or irritate the skin which minimises breakouts and blemishes. Even though I have dry skin, I am always prone to blemishes in the summer months as my skin does tend to get a bit oilier. The mineral foundation from Lily Lolo also has a SPF 15 which gives skin a bit more protection in the sun.
I tried the ‘Mineral Starter Kit’ to get a feel for the foundation. The starter kit contains three sample size foundations to try from, a flawless silk finishing powder and a cute little ‘Baby Buki’ brush to apply the makeup. The Kit contains the shades: Warm Peach, In the Buff and Candy Cane.
I have tried a mineral foundation powder in the past and I like the coverage they provide. What I like about the Lily Lolo brand is the number of different shades they have on offer. When I tried these myself, I liked the Warm Peach and the In the Buff Shade which I would say are good for medium skin tones ( I normally have self tanner on my skin too). The Candy Cane shade would suit a lighter/cooler skin type. The Flawless Silk finishing powder sets the makeup and gives a polished look to the complexion, it is also great to help mattify skin throughout the day when it’s really warm and it doesn’t give a caked on finish like some powders when they are reapplied. I was really impressed with this brand of mineral foundation and I found the consistency and finish better than other mineral foundations I have tried in the past. The starter kit is £13.49 and is available at Lily Lolo.
Sleek Makeup are fast becoming one of my favourite makeup brands as they keep up well with trends and have a great range of both shades and formulations whilst still being very purse friendly. They have some great offerings for summer including the new limited edition iDivine Eyeshadow Palette in Del Mar Volume 1 and the Bronze Block, their four colour bronzer.
The new limited edition iDivine Eyeshadow Palette in Del Mar Volume 1 is designed to help create Ibiza inspired eyes. It contains 12 super pigmented shades, in a mixture of matte and shimmer shades to help you create day and evening inspired looks. This palette is great for cutting down on luggage too as it contains all the shades you might need on holiday, from paired down natural day looks to full on statement eyes for evening. The colours are really bright and summery and will look perfect with tanned skin.
The shades on the top row of the palette ( below from left to right) include:
Lounge Lovers, Poolside, Sunset Strip, Ambience, Chilled Out and Blue Marlin. My favourites from this row include Lounge Lovers (the first one) a shimmery bronze shade which will give eyes a sultry look and the Blue Marlin (last one) which will look great smudged along the eye socket.
The Shades on the bottom row (left to right) include:
Opening Party, On the Rocks, Talamanca, Feel Euphoric, Balearic Beat and Paradise. My favourites from this row include Talamanca (the third one) a neutral shade which is great for daytime and Paradise (last one) smudged under the eye, to make the whites of eyes look brighter.
The Bronze Block is a bronzer containing four complementary shades which can be blended together or used alone. I tried the Dark shade (099). The colours also contain a slight shimmer which is great for enhancing skin during the summer.
I have been using the shades together as an all over bronzer which really helps give a sunkissed glow. The darker shades are also great for really enhancing a tan. The I Divine Del Mar Eye Palette retails at £7.99 and the bronzing block £7.49
Both products are available here.
It’s all about nails, in the next summer special later in the week.
